The Wilderness Lodge April 25, 2011

Well, I must say that my stay at the lodge was very nice. They were quite welcoming there, and were very willing to help out when I needed help. Many interesting things happened (see the previous post), and I was even able to create a magical moment (more on that in a moment).

The one thing that I wasn’t over the top about was the costume. It felt like I has stepped out of Little House on the Prairie-wait a minute, that’s not Disney, that’s Hallmark. Maybe I should say I stepped out of Old Yeller then, which of course the majority of you should know. The shop also constantly played wild west music, which made me think of “High ho Silver away!”, but other than that, I enjoyed my time there…

But onto my magical moment. The moment actually starts at the Grand, while I was in Commander Porters. If kid’s come into the store with their parents, we ask them if they’d like to write a note to their favourite Disney character, which they can put in our mailbox, which will then get delivered to the Magic Kingdom. This family from Wales came in with their kids, so I asked the kids if they’d like to write their favourite character a letter, and they all did.

The two little girls wrote to Alice, and the older brother wrote to Buzz. I looked at the letters before I put them in the box, and what I saw made my brain click. Both the brother and the middle sister had asked the characters to visit them at the Wilderness Lodge…and I thought “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could do something….” I talked to my manager and we eventually came to the conclusion that I could talk to the managers at the Lodge when I went there for my deployment.

Cut to the Lodge, when I went there to get my costume and such, I actually talked to one of them and he said he’d see what he could do. I later found out that they hadn’t been able to find them…but that day, who should walk into the store? You guessed it! They recognized me, and I recognized them. So I told them “Stay right here…” I found Justin, and we all talked for a bit…when the family left Justin got some things to give to them and wrote a note from Buzz and Alice..and then brought the items to the family in their room.

He said the kids were really excited and the dad even video tapped the whole thing! The kids were going to try to write a thank you note for Alice, Buzz, and the Princesses, Justin said that if they did, he’d be sure to get a copy to me.

And that’s one of the many things that Disney stands for. Persevering the magic, and keeping Walt’s dream alive.

Who knew that what started at the Grand would follow me to the Lodge?

On to today…I’m food shopping with Katelyn when she gets home and that’s about it. We have our second house inspection tomorrow, but I won’t be here for it because I have a 5 AM start..which means our senior stockers have called in or something like that. There’s another CP doing that shift as well, plus one full or part timer as well (I think). But hey…I finish at 12, which means I can then go home and go right back to bed!

That’s it for now!

It’s a small, small, world April 22, 2011

Just a quick post about how small this world really is….

At the Wilderness Lodge I was ringing up a guest and eventually got to talking about where they were from. They were from Massachusetts, and this is how the conversation went:

Me: “Oh, I live in Massachusetts for a while.”

Mum: “Really? Where?”

Me: “Hanover”

Mum: “We live in Hanover!” *to Husband and young son* Hey guys she lived in Hanover!

Me: “Yeah, I lived on Broadway”

Mum: “….WE live on Broadway!”

Me: “…I lived on 31…near Mary Lou’s News”

And no…they don’t live in my old house, but they know the area. The mum said that she was going to look for my house now. I told her it’s between two white houses, and told her about our old neighbor’s house…

So yes, it IS a small world after all. More on the Wilderness Lodge tomorrow!

Rango April 18, 2011

I saw Rango today! It was brilliant! Very funny, cute and clever. Good thing it had a PG rating though…however, I do think a lot of the jokes would have gone over the kids’ heads. There weren’t many people in the theater…and I think I saw only one child. I guess most people had already seen it. This made it a very quiet theater, which was good. The only sound, was the sound of us laughing at the funny parts. If you haven’t seen Rango yet, go see it! It is predictable at times, but  I’ve found that most movies are now a days. It was well worth my money, and I’d gladly see it again.

Anyways, I’m being deployed…AGAIN! This time to the Wilderness Lodge. I got my costume today, and I also looked around so I knew where to go. I introduced my self to some of the people at the store, and even met one of the managers. His name was Justin and he was really nice. I think I will enjoy myself over there.

About the Costume though…I’ve gone from Victorian, to Tribal Africa, back to Victorian…and now I’m Little House on the Prairie. Maybe I’ll run into Davey Crockett…they do sell Coonskin caps…

I’ll get back to you on how this deployment goes….

Animal Kingdom Lodge and then some April 3, 2011

Or DAKL (Dak-el) as some people call it…working there was an experience, and I’m glad I had that experience and a chance to work there. However, I’m glad that I can go back to the Grand and I’m glad I’m going back. Working there was hard because I didn’t know anything…and doing the stocking shifts was just way over my head. It will be good to go back to go ‘home’.

There were some cool things about the place…first of all they have animals! Yes…you can see animals from your room there. Plus, if you work at a certain store, you can take a drink down with you for your break, which was really cool. It was different from the Grand.

I will say this though, my last day there I was floor-stock so I mainly stayed in the back room. I organised their drawers and they were very grateful.  They even took a picture of me with the clean drawers so they can remember how it looked after I did it. So that was kinda nice.

I go back to the Grand on Tuesday, so now I’m just enjoying my days off and relaxing. Tomorrow (Monday), I want to try to go to The Magic Kingdom early and TRY to get on the rides…who knows though…

Went to Wal-Mart today to get some basic things, but mainly so I could get a new card to reload my phone.

But there was another reason why I went there. I promised myself once I had a certain amount of money on the card they gave us, I’d buy myself something. And that something was Pokemon White for my DS. So now I have it and I’m happy. I’m stuck on my Professor Layton game right now…I need to find a site that can help me with the puzzle I’m stuck on.

I went to Animal Kingdom yesterday and when I went to the Lion King Show (which I always see) one of the cast members signed me up for first seating because I was there early. I was just talking to her about how much I liked the show and all that…and she told me to wait a moment, and then went away and came back and told me to sign in at about 10:30…it shocked me. She didn’t have to do that…but it was really cool.

And for the first time I saw the show being ‘signed’, apparently the people who know sign language, sign one show a day…it was so cool to watch them because they perform as well! It was just amazing…

I think that’s it for now…can’t think of anything else.

Time to play Pokemon
