Cool Beans Cafe and some other stuff March 23, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — paddedpup @ 11:51 pm

Too tired to think up a creative title…so here it goes.

The Cool Beans Cafe was a lot of fun. Free lemonade, fruit punch, coffee…there was karaoke, and the X-box game rock star. If you did karaoke (which I did) you got a free ceramic take away coffee cup! So I have one of those, and I played rock star as well, and killed my voice. Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer is quite hard to sing, but I did really well. Just had a bit of a raspy voice…I think I got a bit carried away with the “Whoooooaaaaaaaaaaaaa”

Anyways, yesterday I went to EPCOT, and met some of the princesses…got Aladdin and Beast as well. Belle and Best have to be my favourite couple…I met Belle first and had to go back around 2 for both of them. Belle signs for Beast because she’s helping him with his spelling. So she signs it as “Belle and Beast”. She remembered me from earlier in the day, and introduced me to Beast as “my friend from Australia”…and when I told them that they were my favourite couple…the reaction was great. Beast was so cuddly! 😀

I also got my costume for my deployment. It’s a long tunic and some pants. It’s a really comfy costume…and I checked out the lodge so I have a better idea of where I have to go. I met some of the people as well, and they all seem really nice. So it should be a good week. I may even make some new friends…although I’m not looking forward to those early mornings…I’ll come home and go to sleep…

We got the  White Glove Award for our house inspection, which means our place was perfect! Glad that’s over with, now maybe everyone can relax..

That’s it for now guys…have a great morning, afternoon, and evening!

Deployment March 20, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — paddedpup @ 2:29 pm

Just a quick little post. I’m being deployed for a week starting next week (the 27th). They often do this with the people in merchandise, so it’s no big deal, and I’ll be back at the Grand after it’s done. I’ll be at the Animal Kingdom Lodge…and this Lodge has a Savannah…with real animals! I’m going there Monday to get my costume and then to check everything out so I know where to go. The one bad thing about this deployment is…I’m starting real early in the morning: 6, 7, and 5!  I start at 5 two days in a row, that means I need to call for the bus and ask for a bus that starts before the actual buses start! The good thing about starting early? I go home around 1 or 2.

It’s going to be interesting! I’ll be sure to post all about it once my experience is done!

HUZZAH! March 11, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — paddedpup @ 11:01 pm

I think that title is a good title for this post. Why? I’ll tell you why…

Yes! It took me going to the show three times, but today I was chosen! I remember many moons ago my mum was chosen to go up as an extra. Me, being about six or seven, and still quite sure that what happens on the stage was quite real, thought she: A: wasn’t going to come back, or B: was going to get hurt. Of course, she came back and she didn’t get hurt. And today, like her…I was chosen to be a screamer! It was great fun! And because of my Shawn the Sheep bag, several comments were made, one of them being “Oh…a sheep? How realistic.” and another one being (after I reacted to a fellow extra ‘dying’), “Nice acting girl with the sheep”

And another really cool thing about the show…I got to shake hands with the stunt doubles for Harrison Ford and Karen Allen! So that was pretty cool as well!

And when my mum went up on stage all years ago, once the show was over people came over to my mum asking for her autograph. And no, no one came over to me…but about an hour or so later, I was sitting on a bench waiting for one of the street shows to start and little boy about 7 or 8 years old came over to me and said “Hey! I saw you on stage at the Indiana Jones show!”

Guess I made an impression.

And I got to speak with the citizens of Hollywood again! They remembered me, thanks to Shawn the Sheep. It’s always fun talking to them, because they stay in character the whole time. I got my picture taken with them, and I also got my picture taken when I was in my extra’s costume.

Look for pictures soon! I tried to get my photo’s developed yesterday but at Wal-Mart the guy a the photo center told me that they didn’t develop photos from disposable cameras to disks any more (or something like that).  That made no sense to me…so I went to Walgreens and their photo processor was/is broken. So…there will be some wait time for photos in general.

Well, I have an 8:00 start tomorrow morning, and I finish at 3:30…then it’s a week of closing! (blech)…I have Thursday and Friday off again. And on Monday I don’t start until five (which sucks), so I will probably try to go food shopping during the morning.

That’s all folks!

What a day March 10, 2011

Really not much to say today expect for one thing: I am tired. I finished work last night at 11:00, which meant I didn’t get home until after midnight. I had work today at 8:00 which meant getting up at 5:00 so I could have a shower and such and get a sixish bus. Which mean I got just under five hours of sleep. It’s been a long day. Tomorrow will be a day of cleaning, and I will be able to get my photos published. I also want to get a wireless mouse…that way I can navigate things easier. I have found out how to customize this blog, and it will be easier without a touch mouse.

Like I said…not much today. Good night everyone!

The Amazing Race March 7, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — paddedpup @ 2:29 pm

So The Amazing Race was a lot of fun…even though my partner and I lost. It would have been better if people hadn’t cheated. At the beginning we were told “no running” (for safety reasons). The team that won, ran the whole time. They did get time taken off because of this, but they still won. There were also times where you had to wait ‘in line’, I understand that it’s first come first serve, what I don’t understand is…my partner get told to wait ‘in line’ and then we don’t seem to get our next clue because everyone else jumps ahead of us. It might have been better if we had gotten different clues at different times that way we all didn’t end up at one place at the same time.

Ah well…it was two hours of not working that I was paid for, so it’s all good. I only wish that I had work first, then the race instead of the race then work. I was really tired afterwards.

So that was the Amazing Race!

And today I’m closing (again), but it’s a closing stocking shift, which is something I haven’t done before. Hopefully one of the senior stockers are there so I know what I’m supposed to do. Stocking means I can wear pants! And Sneakers!  And instead of looking like Mary Poppins, I look like I belong in a circus. But at least the outfit is comfy.

One more night of closing, then one morning shift, and then I have Thursday and Friday off!

It’s a jungle out there March 5, 2011

Actually, better make that a mad house. Yes, the Magic Kingdom is just plain chaos on a weekend. The rides have lines that are miles long! The shows have lines that seem to go on forever! You can’t even get a simple ice cream cone without waiting in a line. There are people EVERYWHERE! I was in line for the Haunted Mansion, and we had just entered and gone through the room with the moving pictures and where now waiting to get on our ‘doom buggy’ when this thought came to mind: “It would suck if there was a fire right now” or “Now would be a bad time to yell fire”.

I’m telling you, it was organised chaos.

So I’m thinking next week when I have Thursday and Friday off, I’ll go back Thursday and try to get there early. Then maybe I can finally go on Space Mountain and Big Thunder Railroad. There was no way I was going to wait 8o minutes for a ride.

Tomorrow I have to go back to work…from 2:00-11:00. From 2:00-4:00 there’s this Amazing Race activity we are going to do…there are prizes for the winners, and we get paid to do it. I’ll let you guys know about it. It’s supposed to be a lot of fun…and I don’t have to be in my uniform for the first two hours of my shift! HUZZAH!

The good, the bad, the strange, and the just plain cute. March 4, 2011

Yes, all sorts of guests stay at the Grand.

You get the guests that think they are the most important person in the world and that you should help them and only them, and if you don’t have an answer for them, then you better find one, because they’re leaving the hotel in less than an hour, and if you can’t help them then the world will implode (And of course it’s your fault that they left their hotel room late). These guests are always hard to deal with. You just have to keep on smiling and not say anything rude to them.

You have the guests that are quite content in waiting for an answer, because they have plenty of time, and they’re just happy that you’re trying to help them, and even if you can’t give them what they want in the end, they are just happy you tried. I like these guests because they are always pleasant. Normally we can help them. Sometimes our shop won’t be the one that has the item they’re looking for, but we can always point them towards a store at one of the parks or at Downtown Disney. These ones are easy to deal with, and you can’t help but smile when you help them.

You have the guests that think (or at least it appears to be this way) that think we have an endless supplies of items in our stockroom. “Do you have this shirt in a smaller size?” And when we say that we currently have all our stock out, they always ask “Well can you check?” “…..” Normally we can, and we do…but it’s still annoying sometimes. If we have it all out, then we have it all out.

But my favourite guests would have to be the children. I love the kids…they are just so cute and they get excited about everything. We give them a sticker, and it’s like we’ve given them gold. I especially love the little girls who come in with their parents and they’re buying a princess dress and shoes for the princess dinner. I always tell them that the wicked step-mother and step sisters are going to be there as well and their eyes just go wide.

Then I tell them that the step sisters are going to be singing as well (remember how bad they were in the movie?) and their eyes go wider. The other day, a little girl actually knew the song from the movie and sang one of the lines for me: “Sing sweet Night-in-gale. Sing sweet Night-in-gale.” Too cute.

And when I tell them that they’re looking for the perfect prince and that their daddy better watch out the giggle. The dads normally love this. I had one respond: “The perfect prince? They found him!” The mums love it too they often say “Oh? They can have him.” One little girl clung to her dad and said, “No, they can’t have my daddy, he’s mine!”

Even when the kids are throwing tantrums because they’re tired, it’s still cute. I normally tell them that “You can’t be unhappy at Disney World. It’s not allowed.” The parents normally agree with this, and then I tell them: “You know…Mickey Mouse is like Santa here. He sees everything….”

It works…

Well folks that’s it for now. Today is food shopping day for me and then I’m probably going to the Magic Kingdom!

Have a good day!
